Memo: Finances Are Improving

As you are no doubt aware, we have made a number of changes in programming at the Canada Games Aquatic Center over the past few months. These were made to improve the efficiency of our operations, in an effort to ensure the long-term viability of our facility.

In 2018, our expenses exceeded our revenues by more than 1.1 million dollars. This shortfall is funded by the municipalities of Saint John, Quispamsis, Rothesay, and Grand Bay – Westfield. It was clear that this deficit was unacceptably high. For the Aquatic Centre to be sustainable, we had to reduce this amount. This year, we will reduce the funding required from the municipalities by more than $200,000.

For 2020, we will reduce the required operational funding from municipalities by nearly $200,000 again. That is a $400,000 reduction in two years. We are doing this by increasing revenues and controlling expenses. Recently, the four communities have agreed to the funding we requested for next year.

We are committed to ensuring that the Canada Games Aquatic Centre remains viable and it will continue to serve the residents of Southwestern New Brunswick in the years to come. We will remain accessible to our members and other users and will continue to improve the quality and reliability of our programming.

Thank you for your efforts and understanding in helping us achieve these significant improvements to our finances. We are trending in the right direction and we will continue to reduce our dependency on municipal financing in the coming years.
