Atlantic Cup 2022

The Saint John area will be busier than usual this coming weekend as the Canada Games Aquatic Centre welcomes the 2022 Atlantic Cup Swimming Championship. This exciting event is organized by the Fredericton Aquanauts Swim Team (FAST) and will take place July 8-10.

“FAST is very excited to be able to host Atlantic Cup this year. It will be the final swim meet in NB for this season and we hope that we can make it a memorable event for swimmers, coaches, officials, and parents. We expect great competition and a fun atmosphere,” said Michael MacDonald, Meet Manager for the Atlantic Cup Swimming Championship.

Swim teams from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island will flood the city. There will be over 200 swimmers participating in the event, ranging from ages 10-18, accompanied by coaches, officials, family, and volunteers. The meet will include preliminary swims in the morning to qualify for finals in the evening, with trophies awarded to the top swimmers in each category.

“We are excited to host athletes, spectators, coaches and officials from across the Maritimes for the 2022 Atlantic Cup,” said Paulette Hicks, CEO of Envision Saint John. “Events like this help to fill our restaurants, hotels, and shops – driving economic impact for the Saint John region. The Atlantic Cup will bring an estimated $200,000 to Saint John and the Towns by the Bay.”

Featuring the province’s only 50-metre competition pool, the Canada Games Aquatic Centre is uniquely positioned to host high-calibre aquatic events of this nature, allowing for both short- and long-course competitions. “We are thrilled to welcome athletes from throughout the Maritimes to the facility, and are looking forward to a very successful event,” said Ben Tremblay, Aquatics Manager.
