Youth Leadership Award


The Youth Leadership Award, which includes two, $500 scholarships, recognizes students who have made an outstanding contribution to their school and community, while achieving commendable academic standing. The intent of this scholarship is to help students continue their education in the wellness industry. Eligibility

All candidates must currently attend a local area high school in either School District 6, School District 8 or Centre Samuel de Champlain, be a candidate for graduation in the year of the application and have plans to attend a recognized post-secondary institution on a full-time basis in the Saint John area in September of their graduation year. The candidates must also be willing to work on a part-time basis during the upcoming school year at the Aquatic Centre. Special consideration will be made to current staff of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre and those with current aquatic or fitness qualifications.

The candidate must demonstrate strong achievements in academics and outstanding leadership qualities in the school and community, as well, plan a career in a field related to the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. This can include, but not limited to:

  • Business
  • Kinesiology
  • Recreation
  • Management
  • Massage Therapy
  • Nutrition
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Administration

Application Process

A candidate may apply by filling out the Application Form. The candidate should pay strict attention to the sections related to school and community involvement and provide adequate details on achievements. Each application must include two letters of recommendation, one scholastic and one reference of character, from individuals who can attest to the candidate’s involvement within the school and community. The candidate must also include their most recent official transcript of marks.

Successful Applicants

Two successful applicants, will be chosen by the members of the Saint John Aquatic Centre Commission. The Canada Games Aquatic Centre will award two scholarships of $500 each to students in either School District 6, School District 8 or Centre Samuel de Champlain.

The scholarship recipients will be announced at their graduation ceremonies in June. Funds will be forwarded in September to the post-secondary institution of the candidate’s choice, upon presentation of proof of admission into one of the academic programs mentioned.
